We're currently looking at running some tests on Amazon Web Services to quantify the price difference between running jobs locally vs running them in a production cloud. Applicants would be researchers who are currently using ICTS HPC services and non-proprietary software.
Bandwidth will have to be taken into account as well as any data to be analysed or retrieved will have to be moved between the U.S. and South Africa. The softwareOS can be linux based (Red Hat or SUSE) or Microsoft. The estimated duration of the test would be in the region of 7 to 14 days and would incur a financial cost for UCT which ICTS would cover.
