Notification of downtime NB,
please read this!:
This serves as initial notification of the Sunday 22nd July data
centre shut down in 6 weeks time.
The ICTS data centres will be shut down completely on Sunday the
22nd of July between 08h00 and 18h00 for electrical maintenance.
This is part of the planned yearly maintenance cycle. Please ensure
that your jobs are check-pointed if possible and shut down by no
later than Saturday evening. If jobs are left still running we
cannot be held responsible for lost or corrupted data.
Request for references and citations:
If you have published papers or submitted a thesis and have
referenced the ICTS HPC cluster please let us know so that we can
add to our list of references and citations. The details of how to
submit an acknowledgement can be fond here:
https://ucthpc.uct.ac.za/Citations.html
Old accounts:
Please let us know if you no longer require your HPC account. We
would like to do a data clean-up on the file system and will be
moving data from inactive accounts to archive.
Increase in disk space and plans for a new cluster:
We will be presenting an additional 25TB data area: /home2.
Researchers needing extra disk space may request access to this with
a motivation. When we deploy our new cluster later in the year this
data area will be presented as /home, making migration from the old
cluster trivial. As part of our plan to archive research data in
the long term we will be replacing our Gluster scratch area with a
25 TB scratch area which researchers can have RW access to on
request as well as an additional 25TB archive area for long term
backups.
We are working on the deployment of a new cluster. OS will be
Scientific Linux 6.x as this provides a more modern suite of
packages. This will be run in parallel with our current cluster and
will have a fewer servers initially, however the focus will be on
homogeneous hardware with a large number of cores and RAM per
server.
