For those of you who travel as often as we do to conferences or visit research / higher education institutions will find it rather annoying that on arrival your laptop or wireless smart device does not automatically connect to the network. At some institutions you would need to approach the IT helpdesk to have them assign you with a wireless username and password or add your wireless device MAC address to their ACL’s.
Eduroam is the secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. This means that if you are connected to a “ Eduroam “ named and enabled SSID anywhere in the world you will gain access to the internet. UCT has implemented Eduroam so academics and students will benefit from Eduroam.
