Last month we took delivery of four new Dell C6145 servers with 64 cores and 128GB of RAM each. This effectively doubles our 600 series from 256 to 512 cores. Our dashboards have undergone a facelift over the last month as well.
Future plans include decommissioning of the 200 series servers to free up rack space, moving the 8 core 400 series servers to the hex cluster to act as an independent series for batch type jobs (e.g. Galaxy). We are also continuing to explore our cloud integration options with the 700 and 800 series nodes. Node 694 is an Open Nebula implementation and not available for mainstream work.
Depending on uptake of work we are looking at doubling the 600 series again this year which should take us to just over 1000 'bare metal' cores. We are also about to install several new high memory hypervisors into the UCT Cloud which will allow us to provision more 800 series servers.
