{"id":1148,"date":"2011-02-09T18:30:26","date_gmt":"2011-02-09T16:30:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/oldblogs.uct.ac.za\/blog\/big-bytes\/2011\/02\/09\/brief-sanren-outage"},"modified":"2015-08-14T14:08:27","modified_gmt":"2015-08-14T12:08:27","slug":"brief-sanren-outage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ucthpc.uct.ac.za\/index.php\/2011\/02\/09\/brief-sanren-outage\/","title":{"rendered":"Brief SANREN outage"},"content":{"rendered":"This just in from TENET 9 Feb 15:47:\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-size: xx-small; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">Hi All,<\/span>\r\n\r\nThere was a brief yet critical outage on the network just now, however the network has now stabilized.\r\n\r\nOn Monday we experienced a failure of one of the ES20 line cards in the Cape Town router.\u00a0 This caused a brief outage during this time, and in order to rectify this, we moved one of the backbone circuits off the faulty card onto a backup card.\u00a0 Because of issues this faulty card was however propagating onto the network even after this port move, the decision was taken to replace the faulty card at first available opportunity under an emergency change procedure.\u00a0 These cards are meant to be hotswappable in the routers as per Cisco\u2019s documentation, however, on removal of the faulty card and insertion of the new card, the router malfunctioned and rebooted the secondary working card on which the alternate backbone link was terminated.\u00a0 This resulted in BOTH backbone links out of Cape Town being offline while the cards reloaded and the router resynched.\r\n\r\nThe cards have now both loaded correctly and the router is back functioning normally with the faulty card removed and a new card inserted into the system.\r\n\r\nTENET apologizes for the inconvenience caused.\r\n\r\nMany Thanks\r\n\r\nAndrew Alston","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>    This just in from TENET 9 Feb 15:47:Hi All,There was a brief yet critical outage on the network just now, however the network has now stabilized.On Monday we experienced a failure of one of the ES20 line cards in the Cape Town router.&nbsp; This c&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[18],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.4 -
