We installed the servers into our <a href=\"http:\/\/hal.uct.ac.za\/\" target=\"_blank\">SLURM cluster<\/a>\u00a0to allow us to develop hands on experience in provisioning SLURM partitions with GPU resources, something our current Torque\\Maui production cluster cannot do.<\/p>\n<p>We chose <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dell.com\/en-us\/work\/shop\/povw\/poweredge-c4140\" target=\"_blank\">DELL PowerEdge C4140<\/a> servers which can house up to four GPU cards. The servers are populated\u00a0with four <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/data-center\/tesla-p100\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tesla P100<\/a> cards. In addition each server has 32 cores and 128GB of RAM. This increases our GPU count by 16.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ucthpc.uct.ac.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/gpus.png\"><\/p>\n<p>The cards were part of a grant for computer science\\chemistry research and are reserved for this purpose. At a later stage this\u00a0partition may be made available to other research groups on a limited basis, however this will free up other GPU cards.<\/p>\n<p>Currently the server interconnect is limited to 1GB ethernet, however later this month we will be connecting it to our infiniband fabric.<\/p>\n<p>For those who been using our cluster for a while we now have more GPU cards than we had <a href=\"https:\/\/ucthpc.uct.ac.za\/index.php\/2011\/02\/03\/new-icts-hpc-cluster\/\" target=\"_blank\">cores when we started<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The new GPU nodes have been installed into our POC cluster and are currently running jobs.
